Aventura is a small city just south of the Broward County line in Miami-Dade County. It is a planned community that was developed in the 1970s and 1980s on land then known as Biscayne Gardens. The city incorporated in 1995 and now has its own police department, although it still uses the Miami-Dade fire department and schools.
